meowth to meowth

a new ap poll suggests only half of cat-owners would be willing to give their furry ones mouth to mouth in the event of an emergency. what gives?

"superdog, bee, jockey rider, hot dog, pirate, devil, prisoner, yoda, cowboy rider, batman and groom" are this year's top halloween doggie costumes. we think "cat" should be included in that list.

stressed out kitties, new kitties, marking kitties, angry kitties, sad kitties, foster kitties, and crazy kitties could all use a little dose of comfort (zone).

this is both weird and sad; tree man, meet cat-girl.

meet leesha!

we have a new adoptable cat at monroe st., miss leesha. she enjoys going outside, having her coat brushed and the company of other kitties. contact happy cat for more details.

the crazy pair of dogs who wandered into the mineral point store the other day have been picked up from the shelter. let's hope they don't go on any more journeys.

animal freak shows are still in existence? who would even go to one of those?

this is so sad. please be careful when bringing a new baby home - our pets don't innately understand babies.

travelin' tails

since memorial day weekend just kicked off the summer travel season how about a little travelin' cat talk? if anyone has ever gone even around the block with a cat you know it can be a difficult adventure. sure some cats are great in cars, but then there are the constant criers, the PO'd poopers and not, but certainly not least, the exorcist pukers. no matter what the behavior, these are some great methods that can help take the mess and the stress out of car travel with kitty cats whether you're just going down the street or across the country.

in other cat travelin' news a house-cat named skylar decided to take a little trip last week and ended up 60ft. up a tree. the scared kitty was trapped in the branches of the arboreal fortress for six days before a kind soul climbed up and lowerd the kitty down safely enclosed in a bag. after being returned to his owner and having a nice meal skylar was back at the door pawing to go out again. oh those tenacious felines...

now if all this travel talk has given you a bit of cabin fever just go to this site for a quick journey around the world with 2 cats. they'll take you to paris and back again before your next coffee break!

keyboard cat and rubbinzes

if you haven't heard about the play him off, keyboard cat then this might seem a little strange. the phenomenon taking the interwebz by storm is the old vaudevillian concept of a piano man playing an act off the stage. in this modern set-up, a funny or odd youtube video is followed by a seemingly non sequitur keyboard-playing cat. why is it funny? who knows! our theory is that anything with a cat in it is automatically great.

in more interwebz-related cat news, a cat named sockington has reached an impressive 500,000 followers on twitter.com. the normal kitteh, via his guardian, tweets about his daily goings on from litter box trips to naps and everything in between. who knew a simple house cat could achieve fame and the admiration of hundreds of thousands of followers?

now for a bit of behavioral business. why do cats rub on things?

"by engaging in different types of rubbing, cats mark their territory and establish group scents, which are an important factor in maintaining group identity in multi-cat households. when cats rub up against one another, the activity is called allorubbing."

a round of rubbinzes for everyone!

those darn cats!

obviously cats are super smart and awesome, just a couple of reasons why we love them so much. but who knew they were so into thievery?

here we have a british cat burglar who decided to let himself in to the kitchen to retrieve some goodies. using those super-evolved cat senses to jump up and open doors and plastic containers on his own. his new owners are going to need a few security locks on their doors and metal lock box for his food!

then there's the other cat from across the pond who gets some sort of sick kick from stealing peoples' socks! his poor owner is fretting away thinking there's a whole town of sock-less, torch-wielding people looking for the footwear bandit so the paper allowed the cat some anonymity by blacking out his face. how adorable is that!?

last but not least, we have the case of the dog food bandit whose hefty girth got him stuck halfway through the catflap! apparently that "little" guy needs to lay off the dog chow and try stealing a bit of lean meat instead.

our madcat kitties are little thieves as well. usually stealing catnip-stuffed toys and fur mice. every now and then they also get a little wrestless and decide to rip open bags of cat food, too. maybe they don't mean to be little thiefs, but just want to be more self-sufficient. yeah, right!

are your cats thieves? share a few stories in the comments section!

the story of my life

this video is the perfect example of what it's like to share your bed with a cat. they are all warm and cuddly and look so cute sleeping away, off in kitty-cat dreamland......at first. then, come 5 or 6 o'clock the unwelcome wake-up calls start. by 7 o'clock the ear-grabbing, hair-licking, face-dusting and cheek pinching is in full-swing. so why do we do it? to save money on alarm clocks? nah, because deep-down we really love it.

breaking down feline myths

Here’s a great read for any dog people out there who may be questioning their inner feline fanatic. I’ve always said that like any life endeavor, when it comes to having a relationship with a cat, you will only get out of it what you put into it.
