californi-cats

so it turns out that the reason so many california cities are looking to ban declawing is due to the california state legislation preventing local municipalities from enacting declawing bans beginning in january. pretty tricky, vet lobby. luckily, those cities are just too quick for you.

in other hollywood news, two new movies are in the works that feature some famous felines:

spider-man 4 will have an appearance by the comic character, "black cat." rachel mcadams is marked to don the cat suit.

and tim burton's new version of alice in wonderland has the cheshire cat smiling his way across the whole sky. he almost looks like the madcat logo, doesn't he?

three is the magic number

what is the right number of cats per household? shouldn't that be decided by the household and not the local government? hoarders excluded, it's a dangerous game to put limits on pet ownership when local shelters are far from no kill.

world's fastest man adopts world's fastest cat, will now run backwards around the world and stop time. or not.

now los angeles is getting on board the anti-declawing train. pretty soon all of california will be living in the 21st century.

iz a mouse-cat-eer!

happy meowloween, folks! hope everyone is looking forward to a fun and festive weekend. here are a few tips to help keep your pet safe and sound during all the trick-or-treat commotion. oh, and don't forget to set your clocks back!

keeping too-young-to-be-adopted kitties in foster homes is a key step in the no kill equation. if you want to foster local kittehs please contact the dane county humane society or friends of ferals.

"they seek out those who ignore them and spurn those who would befriend them. imperious, aloof, and inscrutable, cats are the teenage girls of the pet world."

declaw? heck nah!

san francisco just got one step closer to enacting a city-wide ban on declawing. we aren't for declawing but what happens when a family faces the decision of either having to give up their cats or become criminals? it's a toughie, alright. what do you think?

cats helps us in so many ways but helping women beat breast cancer has to be up there with the best of 'em. thanks, guys!

warning: from singed whiskers and tails to full-on fires, cats and candles do not mix. please be careful!

uh oh, looks like curiosity gets dogs in trouble, too. hope roxie recovers soon.

resistance is futile. so is trying not to buy this awesome shirt.

dottie will lead you to the darkside

who knew squirrels would look so natural with a deathly beam of pure energy in their hand? animals with lightsabers - 'nuff said.

"it was about nine inches long, very round and cuddly ... well, violent, actually." - some poor woman mistook a giant water rat for her cat. didn't that happen in adventures of babysitting?

santa monica and l.a. are now considering a ban on de-clawing. thanks for getting the ball rolling, san fran! a nation of cats owes you.

"honestly," viney said, "i don't understand why you wouldn't be in support of this. if you're reputable, you have nothing to hide." - as wisconsin's anti-puppy mill bill goes through the legislature, some breeders are taking issue with it.

enrique es un gato loco!

happy cat spotlight: enrique! while he's no latin singing sensation, this guy is bound to make you swoon with his big green eyes. his back-story is a sad one: hit by a car, lacerated tongue, broken teeth, broken leg, the whole works. after a couple months of rest and recuperation, enrique is ready to start a new, happier chapter of his life. if you are interested in meeting him, head to the monroe st. store or contact happy cat.

people in san francisco are weighing in on the declawing debate.

judging animal intelligence with the point of a finger. while they don't mention cats, we know they understand. some are just too cool to care!

remember kiki, another happy cat kitteh? we have some very good news...she's been adopted! the crazy girl is home now with her new family, living it up and enjoying life after motherhood. we wish kiki and her adopter all the best!

save the date!

it's that crazy time of year again when the streets are filled with returning students, fall leaves and drag queens. of course that means the Willy St. Fair is just around the corner! this year's events are scheduled for the weekend of sept. 19th and 20th with the big parade on sunday. come on down and enjoy the festivities with gabby and the rest of the madcat crew and enter the raffle for a chance to win a new cat tree.

today is labor day, the last day of summer. while some may be a little mournful about the impending lack of sunshine and warmth the dogs sure are enjoying themselves over at goodman pool.

san francisco has made the news again for being a pet-friendly city, this time it's for a proposed ban on declawing. surprisingly, there has been opposition coming from an unlikely source - the san francisco aspca. their argument is that more cats will be given up if fed-up owners are not allowed the option to declaw. where do you stand on the argument?

pepper and the cat charmer - he's doing it wrong

paws for thought: a man is facing two felony charges for saving 3 dozen cats from death at a county shelter. what do you think? should the charges be dropped?

a new study confirms what we've suspected all along - cats do control us....but we like it.

once again, san francisco proves itself to be a cat-loving city with a new proposal to ban de-clawing.

"it's nothing new for the eight-year old standard who's also been turned into a dragon, a Ninja Turtle and a peacock by her owner sandy hartness." say what?

fur ban in europe

the european union took another progressive step towards making the world a better place for dogs and cats. this fur-ban and the previous bans on declawing are making the usa look bad.

let's hope that russia, china and the rest of the world will eventually follow suit. to help make that a reality, check this out.
