people for the execution and termination of animals

no jokes. no cute pics or funny stories. just another post on the horrible things peta has done under the guise of animal welfare.

the 2009 numbers are in. peta killed 97% of the 2,366 animals they "took in" last year, adopting out only 8. this is the same organization that called out president obama for killing a fly, and wants punxsutawney phil to replaced by a robot. if it wasn't so shockingly horrific it would almost be laughable. these people are sick. no wonder they want to stop no kill.

but where is the outrage by hsus and aspca? where are the news corps? why are celebrities still lending their names to a campaign of lies? why is peta still receiving millions in donations? when will it end?

no kill now!

shelter showdowns

the humane society of the united states, the association for the prevention of cruelty to animals, and county shelters have been all over the news this weekend. there's some bad news, some new questions, and even some good news:

first, it was the firing of 5 employees charged with animal abuse at the toronto humane society. then, a mummified cat was found in the ceiling of the toronto building during the execution of a search warrant.

then it was the talk of unethical behavior by the aspca up in seattle as the hsus takes over the county shelter and opening the can of worms that is "where do donation dollars go?"

finally, remember oreo's story? a new bill has been presented in new york state that would make it "illegal for a shelter in New York State to kill an animal if a rescue group or No Kill shelter is willing to save that animal’s life."

need moar food?

keeping cats happy, healthy and well-fed keeps them in their homes. the humane society of tampa bay is attempting to do just that by giving away free food and litter to needy families.

doing good from beyond: north carolina millionaire leaves fortune to four local cat rescues.

"mily cyrus fan threatens to eat cat if miley cyrus doesn't tweet again." really? someone needs to get this girl some help. actually, scratch that. get the cat some help. the girl is beyond saving.

the purr-fect gift is not an expensive, pure-breed, exotic kitten. it's the feeling you get when your rescue cat looks you in the eyes and says "thank you."

dottie begins her transformation into dottie-bot 2000

yesterday our little calico princess got microchippped. it was a relatively quick and painless procedure where a small chip, the size of a grain of rice, was inserted under the skin between her shoulder blades. while she didn't really enjoy it we think even dottie would feel good about the peace of mind the chip will bring to us. now, should she ever go off a wandering and end up in a shelter somewhere, a quick scan of her back will reveal the chip number which will lead the shelter workers to us. we had the chip implanted down at the dane county humane society where they take walk-in appointments during regular business hours.

if you have not had your pet chipped we definitely recommend it, and here's why:

a cat and his owner were recently reunited after three years. the miracle that brought them back together? that's right. a microchip!

nine years and 1,000 miles separated a dog, muffy, from her owner. they were only reunited when an aspca worker scanned muffy and located the information on her chip.

have questions? the hsus has answers.

happy birthday, morty and nikki!

they are the cats who've helped make us who we are today and we'd like to recognize them on this special occasion. morty and nikki are siblings and the children of resident matriarch, lucy, and today is their 7th birthday! to celebrate, they will receive extra catnip and some delicious whole mackerels. yummmmmy! if you're in the west-side area, stop in and wish them a happy birthday.......if they're not sleeping, that is.

in unrelated-yet-interesting news, it turns out that the "leader of the conservative party" is an animal-lover. rush limbaugh is doing PSAs for the humane society of the united states to help end dog-fighting and he even has a cat, named punkin, whom he adores. who knew?

...and on a technological note, the online social networking site, facebook, has assisted in the reunion between a couple and their cat, who was missing for two years! the guardians had moved without updating their microchip information so a shelter employee made a last ditch effort to locate them by looking them up on facebook. pretty cool, eh? so the moral of the story is, keep your contact info up to date!
