chips

if you've thought about microchipping your kitty but just haven't gotten around to it yet, now's your chance. get it done this sunday, jan. 10th, at the dchs west-side adoption center and have some peace of mind. the best part? cost is only 15 bucks.

it's not an awesome police badge, but it can save your pet's life.

fat cats

all this talk of obama and the 'fat cats on wallstreet' has us thinking of garfield and pepper and all the other large and lovely felines, not corporate greed.

a steak house store kitty was mistakenly cat-napped but returned safe-and-sound. steak? morty and lucy are drooling with jealousy.

los angeles is considering an ordinance that would require all recovered pets in the city shelter to be microchipped when retrieved by their owners.

in totally un-related news, who knew octopuses (octopi?) could run so fast?

lucy!

our beloved store cat Lucy gave us a bit of a scare earlier today. when we had not seen her for a couple of hours we started worrying that she may have wandered off or, worse, been cat-napped. posters were made, calls went out and just when we started to lose our cool we found her. it turned out that lucy had made her way to a neighbor business' loading dock and had gotten herself stuck behind some crates. ah, of course! curious cats are always getting themselves into sticky situations - it's part of what makes them so goofy and lovable.

we are now happy and relieved to have our girl back in the store, lounging the day away on a cat tree right where she belongs. oh, lucy.

here are some tips on what to do if your cat ever goes missing. our best advice? stay calm, check all cabinets, closets and other spaces where an animal could get trapped, and, most importantly, get your cat microchipped! the dane county humane society will do it for just 15 bucks and it could end up being the difference between life and death for your lost cat.

dottie begins her transformation into dottie-bot 2000

yesterday our little calico princess got microchippped. it was a relatively quick and painless procedure where a small chip, the size of a grain of rice, was inserted under the skin between her shoulder blades. while she didn't really enjoy it we think even dottie would feel good about the peace of mind the chip will bring to us. now, should she ever go off a wandering and end up in a shelter somewhere, a quick scan of her back will reveal the chip number which will lead the shelter workers to us. we had the chip implanted down at the dane county humane society where they take walk-in appointments during regular business hours.

if you have not had your pet chipped we definitely recommend it, and here's why:

a cat and his owner were recently reunited after three years. the miracle that brought them back together? that's right. a microchip!

nine years and 1,000 miles separated a dog, muffy, from her owner. they were only reunited when an aspca worker scanned muffy and located the information on her chip.

have questions? the hsus has answers.
